A big thank you to the @wisdomhouse.international (a premium hospitality and F&B Consulting firm) team for performing their CSR beach clean-up activity with EDA on the 14th of February. They showed some love for our marine environment at La Mer, which needed some TLC.
There are countless cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic cutlery, plastic and metal bottle caps…and these are just a few of the items we go in to remove. Our collection weighed a total of 12.5kg. A toothbrush was the most unusual item found, and the saddest was a dead cat that looked to have been poisoned.
We picked up a staggering 5,205 cigarette butts in our allocated time and we had only just scratched the surface! All our cigarette butts are separated from the rest of the waste and are sent to @goumbook towards their Save the Butts – Waste to Value campaign to recycle them into a sustainable alternative to plywood.
