MaRHE Centre Maldives Workshop 9-14.10.25

Eight EDA members were recently honoured with a one time invitation to travel to the Maldives and take part in a 6-day workshop with the MaRHE Centre based on Magoodhoo Island. @divewithesther@drrsgriffiths@pauljohnmamiit@holly_pelser@juanmlaz@svetym@gordon.t.smith, and @perrinetilloy were led by EDA’s Project Director @allylandesphotography to join @davide_seveso, Enrico and @jacopogobbato who spent the week teaching the group about the Maldivian Atolls, coral reefs, coral reef threats and conservation, sampling techniques, biology and conservation of sharks, and the taxonomy and identification of coral reef fish.

The Marine Research and Higher Education Centre @marhecenter was officially inaugurated on the 28th of January 2009. The centre carries out research and educational activities in the fields of environmental science and marine biology, tourism science and human geography. They also educate on how to protect the fragile environment and its biodiversity, as well as to use and manage its resources responsibly.

The EDA team has come back to the UAE with new knowledge and a stronger motivation to support citizen science.

A massive thank you to the MaRHE Center team and to @gallimarhe for the wonderful hospitality and the exceptional learning week they provided us. We are very grateful for having been given this very special opportunity!
